Death toll reaches 48, 35 missing, 25 injured in rain-caused disasters

Death toll has reached 48 across the country due to floods and landslides caused by the monsoon rains that began on Thursday night, according to the update by the Nepal Police today.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Thapa at the Police Headquarters informed that 21 females and 27 males were killed in the natural disasters occurred in various parts of the country.

Landslide and flood claimed lives of 17 persons in State 1, 7 persons in State 2, 12 persons in State 3, two each in State 5 and Karnali State. Eight persons died in two districts in the Kathmandu Valley.

Altogether 25 people were reported injured as of today morning- five in the Kathmandu Valley, 8 in State 1 and 12 in State 3. The injured ones have been receiving treatment in the nearest health facilities of their respective places.

A total of 35 people were reported missing, one each in Kathmandu and Lalitpur, Paanchthar, Jhapa, Udayapur, Sunsari, Parsa, Rautahat, Mahottari, Siraha , Dhading and Dhausha; three each in Ilam and Morang; six in Sindhuli and 11 in Dolpa district.

The rescue teams of the security forces have rescued 1,104 persons so far while the human resources and equipment from police offices have been mobilized for search and rescue operations in the disaster affected areas.
