Commitment to make all schools safe within 10 years

The stakeholders have expressed commitment to make all schools safe within 10 years by implementing Comprehensive School Safety Action Plan with the support of local government.

They stressed the need of building safe schools to reduce all types of risks including earthquake. The two-day gathering related to ‘Comprehensive School Security’ organised by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology concluded at Birendranagar expressed commitment to form the Comprehensive School Safety Club.

The gathering took the decision to bring practical curriculum and text books related to disaster risk management, exerting pressure to the three-tier government to build earthquake-resistant schools and implement school safety action plan compulsory.

Executive Director of National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal, Surya Narayan Shrestha, said that the gathering was useful in terms of exchanging knowledge among schools to make schools safe from all types of risk, holding discussion on existing rules and policy about safe school and action plan.

A total of 85 students from 28 schools of Karnali state and State 5 including 14 students and teachers of Maiko High School at Kobe city of Japan had participated in the gathering. Similarly, 40 experts from different organisations had also participated in the gathering.
