Road accidents leave 79 dead in 11 months in Siraha

As many as 79 people lost their lives to road accidents in Siraha district in the last 11 months of the current fiscal year 2075-76 BS.
Total 79 people including 64 men, 10 women and 5 children were killed in the past 11 months of the fiscal 2075-76, according to the District Police Office, Lahan, Siraha.
Major reasons behind the rise in the number of road accidents are drivers’ carelessness, drink-driving, lack of road centre, violation of traffic rule, inadequate awareness on traffic rule, overload of passengers, congested roads and driving without license, said Milan Basnet, Traffic Police Inspector at District Traffic Police Office, Lahan, Siraha.
He further said they are making continuous efforts for lessening road accidents by devising different measures such as surprise checking, construction of zebra crossing, health check-up of drivers, school visit programme and community police partnership programme.
Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) at Traffic Police Office, Lahan, informed that the office has raised revenue over Rs 15 million in the fiscal year 2075-76 BS from the penalty slapped to bus, truck, car, jeep, tractor, motorbike and other public vehicles for traffic rule violation. Last year the revenue collection was Rs 19.8 million.
